Other information: William graduated in 1940 from Rochester High School where he was a member of the social science club, the chess club and publications committee. He was elected to the Junior Honor Society while in ninth grade. He was employed by the Rochester News agency until he entered service in 1943. He followed basic training in Fort McClellan after which he was transferred to Camp Shelby, Miss. He went overseas to England in June or July 1944. William saw action in France, Belgium and Germany before being captured by the Germans in Luxembourg, December 1944. He died of pneumonia in Stalag 2A Neubrandenburg Mecklenberg 53-13, a German POW-Camp.
